Congratulations to Thalia Surf Shop for taking the Surf Category championship in the 2014 March Logo Madness competition. En route to their win, they took out some heavy hitters; Quiksilver in the semifinals and RVCA in the finals! Good job by the little shop up the road!
Made the trek out to Palm Springs last weekend to check out Modernism Week. It’s no secret that PS is filled with great midcentury modern stuff but even then, I was completely blown away with how amazing it was. So much good stuff in such a small area, definitely worth checking out. Make sure you get your tickets early because everything sells out, fast. More after the jumpGimme some more. Post a comment (0)
Made the annual trek out to Denver for the SIA / Snowsports show. Always a good time seeing old friends, checking my work & hopefully getting my shred on. This year it was actually winter like & the snow was amazing for the demo days. Like powder days amazing. Good times. Check after the jump for more photos of the shenanigans…Gimme some more. Volcom takes the cake in our inaugural Logo World Championship of the World. After a couple close rounds when battling Quiksilver & Powell Peralta, Volcom rolled through the final taking 78.3% of the vote in it’s battle vs Vans.
Another round down, another close battle. This time the closest was between Vans & Adidas, with Vans winning by 7 votes. Not quite as close as it’s 1-vote squeaker last week but still, it was a bit too close for comfort if you’re rooting for the Original Skate Shoe. This week Vans battles against snow heavyweight, Burton while on the other side of the brackets, the Skate titan Powell dukes it out with Surf superstar, Volcom. Judging by the past few weeks, one of these will be decided by less than 10 votes, but which one?
Head on over and vote on the Final Four in round 5.
The fourth round is open for voting in our March Logo Madness competition. The battle between DC & Vans was as close as it possibly could be with Vans besting DC by a SINGLE VOTE. For the 4th round, the bracket champions will be decided and every one is a heavy contender for the competition championship.
The fourth round / Elite 8 are:
Best of Skate: Powell vs Element
Best of Surf: Quiksilver vs Volcom
Best of Snow: Burton vs Santa Cruz
Best of Lifestyle: Adidas vs Vans
The response to the contest has been great, it’s down to the last couple rounds now and only eight logos remain but these four votes may take more time to decide than the entire 32 votes in the first round.
Inaugural March Logo Madness is underway, head to March Logo Madness to vote!
Grant is the original Skate Photographer and one of the nicest guys we’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing / working with. Going to do everything in our power to be here. Should be super rad.
“Grant will be doing an old-time skateboarding slideshow from 7 to 9pm. Featuring narration as well as Q + A. Space is limited, so get there early. The $10 entry goes to the Encinitas Community Resource Center and we will have drinks and popcorn. . . . “This is how we used to show our photos back in the day before the friggin Web and photo exhibits every other weekend,” says Grant. “There’s nothing like a good old fashion slideshow in a cold garage.”
The Garage at UNIV is located at 1053 South Coast Highway 101, in Encinitas, California. For more information, call (760) 942-UNIV or visit www.univ-shop.com
