A few months back I got a call from the guys at Plan B, wanting a mini-series for the team based on my “Ice & Snow” Viking. 4 boards, one each for Ryan Sheckler, PJ Ladd, Torey Pudwill and Paul Rodriguez. Check after the jump for the story & larger / more detailed images with the glow in the dark hit exposed.

The project was a no brainer, aside from Plan B being a super-team, they were my first “design job” oh-so-many years ago, I was thrilled to work with them again & really threw down for this series. The idea was to first dip them in black, then use 2 flourescent inks, a white flash & a glow in the dark hit for each board. Everything was done, ready to go & the plug was pulled. Can’t say / don’t really know what happened but unfortunately instead of them being on my (and your) wall, they’re up on here to ogle at. Hopefully another brand will pick the idea up but until then, enjoy.

PJ Ladd’s Boston theme

which shared the green with Torey Pudwill’s “Bear” theme

which shared the blue with Ryan Sheckler’s “Ocean / California” theme

which shared the purple with Paul Rodriguez’ Laker colored / Cobra / Bruce Lee theme which also ties back to PJ’s green / yellow board.

They may not have been produced but they’re still some work that I’m very proud of.

For anyone who hasn’t bolted out of the office yet, got a good one for your Friday with Steve Cabellero, Omar Hassan & Lizzie Armanto skating pools at night. I met Cab once, super nice guy. It’s no wonder why he’s so well respected & liked in the sport. Throw Miller in the mix & you pretty much have the Pool Dream Team. Interesting video. A bit more after the jump

Brittain’s Vault with Chris Miller

Worked with both Grant & Chris a few times in my career. They’re both amazingly nice with unbelievable talent & knowledge stored up that they’re not afraid to share. Two of the coolest guys out there in all reality. Anyways, enough of the love-fest. This shot is amazing & hearing the story of it is awesome, seeing the little bit of footage of Chris at Upland is just a bonus.

Back to the hustle after the long weekend but we do have this pretty cool video we saw over on AWSM, D*Face made a spray paint rig for skateboards. Add that with some legendary pool skaters, a freshly painted pool & watch the fun ensue.

Go Skateboarding Day!

Not only is today the day that every store in Barcelona is closed (don’t plan on buying stuff to bring home that day, we learned the hard way), it’s also Go Skateboarding Day! Even if you only get out & push around for a couple minutes once a year, this is the day to do it. Legendary artist (& super cool guy) Jim Phillips did the poster, kinda of reason enough in my book. Nike covers all the action sports bases with this unique night-shot trailer. I have to admit it’s pretty cool that they’re giving action sports athletes close to the same coverage as stick & ball athletes.

MOCA – Art in the Streets

Pretty cool deal for the skateboarding / graffiti art world up in LA this week. MOCA LA is showing Art in the Streets, which features artwork from numerous big names in the skate / street art scene including Kieth Haring, Mister Cartoon, Lance Mountain, Basquiat, Ed Templeton, Twist, Amaze and others. Also included are an informative timeline of the history of Dogtown & CR Stecyk.

Transworld Skateboarding has a little write up on opening night as does HybeBeast. Pretty cool deal, we’ll be checking it out in early May for sure.

Also at the event, Nike SB partnered with MOCA to create a skate-able art installation created by Lance Mountain & Geoff McFetridge. They’ve also got some limited edition t shirts by Lance Mountain, CR Stecyk III, Neckface & Futura (which are probably already sold out & on ebay for $500 a pop). Anyways, it looks pretty cool, too.
